i manifest therefore i am.

I wish to create collectives that contact desire and the deep rawness of the erotic to conjure up worlds of inclusion, visibility, and pleasure. Through movement based practices that often move in and outside of writings, I am engaged in the modalities and unique dynamics of the African diaspora and how they are brought to the forefront of dance in real time. I am enamored by how black femme artists use methods of scrapbooking and collage to transcend time and offer alternative narratives. Placing myself alongside these inspirations remind me that dance is not only an expansive and visceral experience, but an intimate and integral way of communication for historically and systemically hushed bodies. I am motivated by the desire of black folks feeling safe and free, for us to have unlimited access to rest that does not participate in wagering. How can black folks, namely black femmes actualize ourselves in the fantastical, real, and everything in between?

i am tethered by joy on the playground, queer curiosity of childhood, black aunties that say “hmmm” as a full sentence, the click clack of bo bo’s, sneakers on telephone lines, the smell of lemongrass on locs, the mash of shea butter between palms, the ash marks on the speakers of a trap studio, and kisses from grandmommy on my forehead.
